On August 14, 2025, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Lao Foreign Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, who was in China to attend the 10th Foreign Ministers' Meeting of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation in Anning, Yunnan. Wang Yi said that China and Laos, as socialist comrades and brothers, always support each other on issues concerning their core interests, and the construction of a community of shared destiny between the two countries is at the forefront of the times. China supports the Lao Party in convening the 12th National Congress and planning the next steps for the development of the Party and the country. China is willing to work with Laos to implement the important consensus reached by the two parties and countries' highest leaders, strengthen strategic communication, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, jointly celebrate the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year, and continuously inject new vitality into the traditional friendship between China and Laos. Both sides should accelerate the upgrading of the China-Laos railway, promote the realization of the China-Laos-Thailand Connectivity Development Plan, and assist Laos in development and regional connectivity. China is willing to share the dividends of the vast market with Laos, encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest in Laos, maintain the security and stability of supply chains, and jointly resist economic bullying and coercion.
