On August 13, local time, Mexican President Lpez Obrador stated that the transfer of 26 senior leaders of drug trafficking groups to the United States was a sovereign decision based on Mexico's national security considerations. Lpez Obrador emphasized that the extradition decision was made by the Mexican National Security Council based on considerations of "national security."
