Oracle is cutting staff in its cloud infrastructure department to cope with soaring AI spending.
The Oracle Corporation is cutting jobs in its highly publicized cloud division, which is the latest cost-cutting measure the company has taken amidst heavy investment in artificial intelligence infrastructure. According to sources familiar with the matter, affected employees were informed this week that their positions have been eliminated, with some layoffs related to performance issues, and the department is still in the process of hiring. An Oracle spokesperson did not respond to multiple requests for comment. The specific scope of the layoffs is not yet clear. Many tech giants are trying to cope with the rising costs of artificial intelligence by cutting expenses in other business units. Microsoft has already laid off about 15,000 employees this year, and Amazon and Meta Platforms have also carried out layoffs.
