Walmart upgrades employee benefits in the United States: 10% off all year round on purchases, covering almost all groceries.

The largest private employer in the United States, Walmart, announced on Wednesday that it will expand the employee discount of 10% to almost all grocery items with immediate effect, including fresh milk, pasta, frozen pizza, and meat, and no longer limited to the holiday season at the end of the year. The move is aimed at helping employees reduce their increasingly heavy food expenses while also improving recruitment and retention effectiveness. The news was announced by Walmart executives at a holiday season planning meeting held in Houston on Wednesday. Walmart's Chief Human Resources Officer, Donna Morris, said in a letter to employees that expanding the discount to apply all year round is one of the most anticipated benefits by employees. The company's approximately 1.6 million employees in the United States can enjoy this benefit after 90 days of employment, excluding clearance items. Walmart declined to disclose the cost estimate of expanding the discount.
