High temperature boosting demand + supply obstruction drive Chinese thermal coal prices to a five-month high.
According to the Securities Times app, the price of thermal coal in China has risen to its highest level since March, due to a decrease in production caused by heavy rain in the mining areas, and hot weather has boosted demand for this fuel for cooling purposes. Data from China Coal Resource Network shows that the spot price at Qinhuangdao Port, the domestic benchmark for coal prices, has climbed to 678 yuan per ton (about 94 US dollars), reaching its highest point since March 17th. The current coal price has risen by 11% from the four-year low reached in June.
