Sugar prices hit the longest consecutive increase in five months, affected by concerns about Brazilian production.
New York raw sugar futures rose for the third consecutive trading day, setting the longest streak of gains since February 21, mainly due to concerns about the declining sugarcane production in Brazil, the largest sugar producing country. This could lead to reduced supply. The sugar production in Brazil for the 2025-26 season may reach 39-40 million tonnes, lower than the previous estimate of 41 million tonnes. Rahil Shaikh, Managing Director of Meir Commodities India Pvt., stated that this forecast is based on market estimates and takes into account the potential impact of unfavorable weather on production. The crop has suffered from widespread drought during its early growth stages, resulting in lower yields.
