US Treasury Secretary Berson, in an interview with Nikkei News, stated that President Trump's tariff policy aims to bring manufacturing back to the United States. When evaluating the effectiveness of Trump's economic policies since taking office, Berson said, "Trump's economic policy is like a 'three-legged stool' - taxes, trade, and regulatory relaxation. In terms of taxes, we have completed the record-breaking Tax Cuts and Jobs Act at an unprecedented speed, which was signed into effect on July 4. Regarding trade, I believe we can basically complete the relevant work by the end of October. As for regulatory relaxation, this is an ongoing effort, and it has been clearly stated that for every new regulation that is issued, ten old ones must be repealed." Berson mentioned that the main reason for the shift towards a tariff policy in trade is to rebalance. "Over time, tariffs should melt away like ice. If production comes back to the US, our imports will decrease," he said.
