The Turkish Dardanelles Strait channel is reopened.
The Turkish Coast Guard website announced on the 9th that the wildfires in the northwestern province of Canakkale in Turkey have been completely controlled, and the international shipping route, the Dardanelles Strait, which was temporarily closed, has begun to resume operations early on the 9th. The Dardanelles Strait, along with the Sea of Marmara and the Bosporus, form the Turkish Straits, which is the only waterway connecting the Black Sea and the Mediterranean, and is also one of the busiest waterways in the world. Official data shows that nearly 46,000 ships passed through the Dardanelles Strait in 2024. Turkey announced on the 8th the temporary closure of the Dardanelles Strait for both directions to facilitate firefighting operations.
