The rise in raw sugar futures is influenced by concerns over the sugar cane production in Brazil, the world's largest planting country.
Raw sugar futures have risen due to market concerns over a decrease in sugarcane production in Brazil, the world's largest sugarcane producing country. "Although the sugarcane crushing volume is currently huge as we are approaching the seasonal peak, the continuously reported decrease in production could lead to a sharp reduction in sugarcane production in Brazil in the fourth quarter," said Claudiu Covrig of Covrig Analytics. He stated that sugarcane processing plants may deplete their supply of sugarcane earlier than expected. Brazil's government forecasting agency Conab predicted in April of this year that total sugarcane production for the 2025-26 milling season in Brazil may reach 6.634 billion tons, a 2% decrease from the previous year. Covrig mentioned that there are rumors circulating that production could drop below 6 billion tons.
