On August 8th, the Chinese Consulate General in Melbourne once again reminded Chinese citizens in its jurisdiction to strengthen personal safety precautions. The reminder pointed out that recently, Chinese tourists and students in Hobart, Tasmania, within the consular district, have been randomly attacked by local minors, posing a serious threat to the personal safety of Chinese citizens. Recently, another Chinese student shopping in a mall in Hobart was inexplicably attacked by a group of minors, resulting in serious injuries requiring medical treatment. Fortunately, the student is currently out of danger. After the incident, the Consulate General immediately contacted the victim and their family, inquired about the injuries, expressed condolences, and entrusted local Chinese community members in Tasmania to visit the hospital. The Consulate General urged the Tasmania government and relevant departments to take effective measures to fully treat the injured, investigate the situation thoroughly, punish the perpetrators severely, and effectively safeguard the personal safety of Chinese citizens to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
