The Shanghai Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau and five other departments recently issued the "Notice on the Implementation of Social Insurance Subsidies for Employers During Maternity Leave and Maternity Leave of Female Employees." According to the notice, starting from January 1, 2025, female employees who give birth during their employment will be eligible to apply for maternity leave social insurance subsidies if their employers provide maternity leave and maternity leave and pay social insurance premiums in accordance with the law. The subsidy standard is 50% of the actual amount paid by the employer for the female employee's basic old-age insurance, basic medical insurance, unemployment insurance, and work-related injury insurance during the maternity leave and maternity leave period, for a period of 6 months starting from the month of childbirth. The notice specifies that the maternity leave social insurance subsidy will follow the principle of "local management, pay first and subsidize later," and will be distributed in a lump sum upon approval. Employers can apply to the local human resources and social security department within 1 year after the end of the female employee's maternity leave and maternity leave, and once approved, the subsidy will be paid in a lump sum for 6 months. Currently, the relevant departments are urgently developing an online processing system to facilitate employers in applying for and receiving subsidies in a convenient and efficient manner. Employers will be able to apply for the subsidy online starting from the end of August.
