Shiba Shigeru: Strongly demand the US side to immediately amend the executive order.
According to Xinhua News Agency, Japanese Prime Minister Shimpachisho admitted on the 7th during a press conference at the Prime Minister's Office that the US has not implemented the content of "tax relief" agreed upon in the previous bilateral agreement. "We strongly demand that the US take immediate action to correct the executive order of the President." The report stated that the US had promised in previous negotiations that Japan would receive "tax relief" when subjected to "equal tariffs", meaning that goods from Japan with a tariff rate of over 15% would no longer be subject to "equal tariffs", while goods with a tariff rate lower than 15% would see their tariff rates increased to 15%. Shimpachisho stated that there was "no disagreement between Japan and the US" on this matter, and the Minister of Economic Revitalization Akira Amari, who is currently visiting the US, has already confirmed the content of the agreement. The new tariff rates and related policies of the US government took effect on the 7th. The Japanese side believes that due to the lack of details on tariffs towards Japan in the official announcement by the US, some Japanese goods may be subject to higher tariffs.
