According to the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the 23rd meeting of the Standing Committee of the 16th Shanghai People's Congress reviewed the "Report on the Progress of Urban Renewal Work". Wang Zhen, director of the Shanghai Housing and Urban-Rural Development Administration, stated that in recent years, urban renewal in the city has achieved positive results in improving people's well-being, enhancing urban quality, optimizing functional layout, promoting transformation and development, strengthening resilience and security, and inheriting urban heritage. Wang Zhen said that in the future, they will actively explore new models and mechanisms for urban renewal that are suitable for the city's actual situation, accelerate the pace of urban renewal, and promote high-quality urban development. They will take planning as a guide, scientifically formulate urban renewal goals and tasks, accelerate sustainable exploration and innovation in renewal models, and better serve the long-term development of the city. They will formulate the "Shanghai Urban Renewal Action Plan", and based on the completion of the first three-year action plan by 2025, further clarify the key tasks and renewal projects for the next three years. For example, it is specified that in 2026, the comprehensive renovation project of urban villages will be fully launched, in 2027, the complete transformation of small Liang thin-walled houses will be completed, old residential neighborhoods will continue to be renovated, the upgrade of commercial business will be accelerated, the quality and efficiency of industrial land will be improved, the integration of functions and the quality improvement of the "One River One Belt" will be promoted, and historical and cultural protection and inheritance will be enhanced.
