On the 6th local time, the 40% "sectional tariff" imposed by the United States on Brazil officially took effect. On the same day, Brazilian Finance Minister Haddad confirmed that he will hold a video call with US Treasury Secretary Besent on August 13. In addition to the "sectional tariff," Brazilian products exported to the United States also face a 10% "equivalent tariff." This tariff has been in effect since April 2, and the executive order on July 31 only made technical revisions and continuations, maintaining the 10% tax rate. Therefore, categories not exempted and subject to a 10% tax rate will now collectively bear a 50% additional tariff from this month. In the morning of the 6th, Brazilian Finance Minister Haddad revealed that he had received a confirmation email from the US side, and he will have a video call with US Treasury Secretary Besent on August 13. Haddad stated that both sides will exchange views on tariff implementation arrangements, possible technical adjustments, and future dialogue schedules, while Brazil's domestic relief and credit support measures will be announced separately.
