The Lebanese government is pushing to achieve national unified control of weapons by the end of the year.
Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced on the 5th that the Lebanese government has instructed the military to develop a plan to ensure that all weapons are brought under state control by the end of this year. According to the Lebanese National News Agency, Mikati stated after the cabinet meeting that the military must submit the plan for cabinet review by August 31. According to the Al-Manar TV, affiliated with Hezbollah, two ministers belonging to Hezbollah and its Shiite ally Amal Movement withdrew from the cabinet meeting that day due to dissatisfaction with the decision. The Lebanese cabinet is scheduled to meet again on the 7th to further discuss the matter.
