The U.S. will charge some visa applicants a maximum of $15,000 in bond.
According to the pre-release version of the "Visa Security Deposit Pilot Program" published by the US Federal Register on the 4th, the US State Department will charge a security deposit of up to $15,000 from individuals applying for business and tourist visas to the US from certain countries. This 12-month pilot program is expected to be officially announced on the 5th and will take effect 15 days after the official announcement. According to the pre-release version of the program, if citizens of a certain country have a high rate of overstaying in the US and provide insufficient screening information, that country may be included in the list of countries required to pay the visa security deposit. This list will be announced later. The US State Department said that the visa security deposit amount will be divided into three tiers: $5,000, $10,000, and $15,000. If a visa applicant pays the security deposit, obtains a visa, enters the US, but violates the relevant regulations, the security deposit will be confiscated by the US federal government. US media predicts that this move will lead to some visa applicants for the US giving up their applications because they cannot afford the security deposit, and some US cities that rely on tourism may also be affected as a result.
