The Swiss government held a crisis meeting on Monday to propose a plan to deter US President Donald Trump from imposing a 39% tariff on Switzerland in less than three days. Given that the tariff is set to take effect on August 7th, Swiss Federal President and Minister of Finance Karin Keller-Sutter convened an emergency meeting of the Federal Council on Monday to discuss response measures. While officials inside the Federal Palace are working behind the scenes to find a solution, this issue has also become a hot topic during lunchtime in parks in downtown Bern. In addition, negotiators from the Swiss Federal Office for Economic Affairs have been in contact with their American counterparts in an attempt to find a solution. The agency reached a more favorable preliminary agreement with the US a month ago and held a briefing session with business leaders on Monday.
