UBS Group announced that it has reached a $300 million settlement with the U.S Department of Justice in the UBS Credit Case.
UBS Group announced on August 4th local time that it will pay a $3 billion settlement to the US Department of Justice to resolve remaining cases involving subprime mortgage-backed financial products at Credit Suisse. Subprime mortgage-backed financial products were the "culprit" of the 2008 financial crisis. UBS stated in a statement that through this agreement, UBS has resolved another legacy issue at Credit Suisse. Credit Suisse is Switzerland's second-largest bank after UBS, but in recent years, it has repeatedly been involved in financial scandals and major investment errors, leading to huge losses. In order to save Credit Suisse, which was facing a run on the bank and nearing collapse, on March 19, 2023, with the massive guarantee of the Swiss government, UBS Group agreed to acquire its competitor. After the acquisition was completed, UBS carried out a large-scale restructuring of Credit Suisse's credit business. In May 2025, UBS reached an agreement with the US Department of Justice to resolve a tax evasion case involving assistance to Credit Suisse with a $511 million fine.
