Cryptocurrency tycoon takes the latest Blue Origin flight to space.
A Blue Origin rocket carrying cryptocurrency entrepreneur Sun Yuchen and five other individuals completed a round trip journey to the edge of space.
The flight was launched on Sunday morning at 7:42 am local time from western Texas, and was a brief suborbital space tourism flight.
Sun Yuchen founded the blockchain platform Tron and serves as an advisor to HTX, one of the world's largest cryptocurrency exchanges. In 2021, he won a seat on Blue Origin's tourist spacecraft with a high bid of $28 million. The auction proceeds were donated to Blue Origin's "Club for the Future" foundation to support space-related charitable causes.
The other members on the flight included real estate investor Alvi Bahar, Turkish businessman Gokhan Edim, meteorologist and journalist Deborah Matorel, teacher Lionel Pichford, and JD Russell, the founder of risk investment company Alpha Funds.
The cryptocurrency entrepreneur had initially planned to fly on Blue Origin's first crewed flight in July 2021 with the company's founder Jeff Bezos, but had to reschedule at the time.
Blue Origin stated that the company has conducted 14 tourism missions to date using its New Shepard rocket.
