Foreign media: Germany's railway experienced three arson incidents in two days, suspected of intentional sabotage.
According to a report cited by the Singaporean newspaper Lianhe Zaobao website on August 3, the German authorities said that after arson attacks on the railway cables in two locations in the west caused hundreds of trains to be suspended, another fire occurred, with preliminary investigations indicating that it was also intentionally set. The German railway company reported on August 2 that the latest fire occurred a day earlier in Hoehnmoelsen in the eastern state of Saxony-Anhalt. The company stated, "Preliminary investigation results indicate that this cable fire was also a criminal arson incident." Earlier fires occurred on July 31 and August 1 between the western cities of Duesseldorf and Duisburg, with the fire points about a kilometer apart, causing damage to the railway cables. The line in Hoehnmoelsen is mainly used for freight transport, especially coal transport. In contrast, the impact on the two western cities is more extensive, with the first fire occurring at a junction in Duesseldorf, affecting a major mainline connecting the Ruhr industrial area with Northern Europe and Switzerland. The German railway company said that the fires led to the cancellation or diversion of "hundreds of trains," affecting tens of thousands of passengers' travel.
