Portugal has declared a state of alert due to high temperatures and the risk of wildfires.
Portugal's Minister of the Interior, Maria Lcia Amaral, announced on the 2nd that due to the extremely serious high temperatures exacerbating the wildfire risk in some areas of Portugal, the country will enter a state of alert starting from midnight on the 3rd, with maximum temperatures expected to be between 36 and 44 degrees Celsius. It is predicted that Portugal will experience a "extremely serious heatwave" until the 6th, with most areas of the country reaching temperatures between 36 and 40 degrees Celsius, and some areas between 41 and 44 degrees Celsius. Amaral stated that next week will be a difficult one for Portugal, with all firefighting forces ready. The National Guard, Public Safety Police, and Armed Forces will increase patrols, inspections, and monitoring. The state of alert will continue until 23:59 on August 7th.
