Meituan: Pretending to be a delivery driver, making up a sad story and begging on the street, two people detained for fraud.

On the evening of July 31, the official Meituan account "Xiao Tuan has something to say" posted a statement saying that, according to their understanding, the Chongqing police received reports from the public that near the Times Square shopping district in Yuzhong District, there was a man kneeling on the ground wearing a Meituan rider uniform, while a woman attracted people by singing through a loudspeaker. Between the two of them, there was a sign saying "Please save my son" and other messages including urgent need for surgery costs for their sick child, attracting a lot of attention. Due to the involvement of the rider identity, the relevant department of the company cooperated with the police to verify the information, and found that the man was named Yang, who registered as a crowdsourced rider in Yichang, Hubei in 2019 and canceled his rider account in December 2023, after which he did not work on the platform. After investigation, the police found that the Meituan rider uniform worn by Yang was purchased through an e-commerce platform in June this year with the purpose of pretending to be a rider in offline begging to attract attention and deceive money. Currently, the suspects Yang and Tang have been lawfully detained for 8 days.
