The EU intends to sanction Israel? The differences between the US and EU on the "two-state solution" are becoming increasingly apparent.
On the 30th local time, the United Nations concluded a high-level meeting on the peaceful resolution of the Palestinian issue and the implementation of the "two-state solution". The meeting was jointly hosted by France and Saudi Arabia. The United States and Israel did not attend the meeting. During the meeting, Saudi Arabia, France, and more than a dozen countries, as well as the European Union and the Arab League, issued a statement calling on the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement to lay down their weapons and proposing the establishment of transitional governance and security mechanisms in the Gaza Strip to actively promote the implementation of the "two-state solution". The UK signed this statement. The UK Prime Minister's Office stated that if Israel does not take substantive actions to end the dire situation in the Gaza Strip and commit to achieving long-term sustainable peace, the UK will recognize Palestine before the opening of the United Nations General Assembly in September to uphold the feasibility of the "two-state solution". However, the US and Israel both boycotted this initiative. US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce stated that the meeting was "not constructive and ill-timed," and just a "show". Israel's permanent representative to the United Nations, Danny Danon, called the meeting "unhelpful in advancing solutions and instead deepening misconceptions", discussing "issues disconnected from reality".
