A senior executive of Alphabet Inc., Google's parent company, stated that Google considers Asia to be "one of the most challenging regions in its decarbonization process." George Foulonato, head of clean energy and power for Google in the Asia-Pacific region, said at the Bloomberg Sustainable Business Summit in Singapore that in some areas, such as Taiwan, the tech giant struggles to secure enough volume due to insufficient supply of renewable power. He added that Japan also lacks adequate space to develop utility-scale solar projects. "We need a range of advanced clean energy technologies to fill the gap in power generation," he said, highlighting the potential of geothermal technology in Asia. Foulonato stated that Google plans to achieve net zero emissions for all its operations by 2030 and has not yet scaled back its green goals. However, the booming development of artificial intelligence is expected to increase energy demand, making decarbonization efforts for tech companies more complex.
