According to the official WeChat account of the China Coal Transportation and Distribution Association, domestic coal consumption in June gradually rebounded compared to the previous month, but was still relatively weak compared to the same period last year. During this time, the growth rate of electricity demand increased, with hydroelectric power output falling short of expectations. Thermal power units played a key role in ensuring energy security, leading to an increase in coal consumption for electricity generation. The production of coal-consuming products such as pig iron, cement, and flat glass continued to decline among large-scale enterprises, constraining the growth of coal demand in the steel and building materials industries. However, the production of major coal-based chemical products experienced rapid growth, supporting overall growth in coal consumption for chemical industry use. In the first half of July, high temperatures spread across China, leading to suboptimal hydroelectric power output. As a result, thermal power generation saw both month-on-month and year-on-year growth, leading to increased daily coal consumption at thermal power plants.
