Research from Canalys shows that in the second quarter of this year, smartphones assembled in India accounted for 44% of the total smartphones imported into the United States, a significant increase from 13% in the same period last year. Canalys stated that the total production of smartphones in India increased by 240% compared to the same period last year. The sharp increase in the shipment volume of smartphones in India is mainly due to Apple speeding up its production in India. It has been reported that Apple has accelerated its plans to produce most of the iPhones for the U.S. market in India, with the goal of increasing the production of iPhones in India to about one-fourth of the total production in the coming years. Meanwhile, Canalys data shows that iPhone shipments in the second quarter decreased by 11% to 13.3 million units, reversing the 25% growth momentum from the previous quarter.
