Toyota's chairman expressed willingness to import American-made cars to Japan.
Toyota Motor Corporation Chairman Akio Toyoda has expressed willingness to import cars produced by the company in the United States to Japan. Toyoda recently stated, "There are many models that are not sold in Japan." Although Toyoda did not disclose the specific models that will be imported to Japan, it is believed that he is considering introducing the Camry sedan and other models, such as trucks. The Camry is no longer being produced or sold in Japan. According to the agreement, American-made passenger cars that meet Japanese safety standards can be imported without undergoing additional safety testing. Toyoda's remarks are based on this aspect of the deal. If Toyota imports products manufactured in the United States to Japan, it is possible that the U.S. trade deficit could decrease. Toyoda stated that due to the tariff agreement making it easier to import American-made cars, the selection range will increase, "which is beneficial for consumers."
