In the first half of 2025, 47.5% of supermarket enterprises saw an increase in total sales compared to the same period last year, while 40% of enterprises experienced a decrease. Compared to the previous year, the overall sales situation in the industry has improved. In the first half of 2025, 37.5% of supermarket enterprises saw an increase in net profit compared to the same period last year, while 45% had a decrease. Among the enterprises with sales growth, one-third did not see a corresponding increase in profit. 62.5% of supermarket enterprises saw an increase in online sales compared to the same period last year, with 12 companies experiencing growth, 2 remaining stable, and 11 seeing a decline. 11 companies saw an increase in profit, 4 remained stable, and 10 experienced a decrease. The report suggests that in the first half of 2025, supermarkets face challenges such as a downturn in the overall consumer market, weakened consumer purchasing power, and the diversion of consumer spending to instant retail platforms and discount snack stores. Other challenges include store adjustments, new store locations, difficulty in finding high-quality suppliers, substantial investment in transformation, and difficulty in reducing fixed costs such as rent and labor expenses. The report recommends that relevant departments regulate the market to create a fair competitive environment and promote the balanced development of the commercial ecosystem. It also highlights the importance for supermarket enterprises to maximize their advantages through store layout, unique products, and services to maintain the attractiveness and competitiveness of their channels, which is crucial for the industry's development. The survey included a total of 40 supermarket enterprises with nearly 10,000 stores and an annual total sales of over 200 billion yuan.
