On July 28th, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment held its routine press conference where the Director of the Department of Nature Conservation, Zhang Yujun, stated that in February of this year, the ministry, along with 9 other departments, issued the "Implementation Plan for Major Projects in Biodiversity Conservation." The next step will be to systematically advance the implementation of tasks: First, based on unified supervision functions, construct a supervisory system. Establish a system for monitoring, observing, and evaluating biodiversity, and formulate standards for assessing the status and effectiveness of biodiversity. Second, coordinate the three major goals of biodiversity conservation, sustainable use, and benefit sharing. Clearly define differentiated protection goals and tasks for different regions, promote protection through sustainable use, and advance pilot demonstration projects. Third, focus on key technological issues, protect the country's genetic resources and related traditional knowledge. Construct an efficient and intelligent genetic resource protection system, research and formulate a key supervision list for biological genetic resources and related traditional knowledge, and standardize their acquisition, use, and benefit-sharing activities.
