U.S. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross said on Sunday that the EU should agree to open its market for American exports in order to persuade President Donald Trump to lower the "equal" tariffs on the group of 27 member countries. Ross's comments indicate that Trump is willing to reach an agreement with the EU, but he also reiterated that Trump still believes the likelihood of reaching an agreement is roughly fifty-fifty. "The question is whether they can offer President Trump a good enough deal that makes it worth for him to give up the 30% tariffs he has set," Ross said on Fox News. The remarks by the Commerce Secretary still raised some questions: what would a "good enough" agreement with the U.S.'s largest trading partner look like at this critical juncture of trade negotiations? Trump said on Friday, "We have a fifty percent chance of reaching an agreement with the EU, maybe even less than fifty percent, but there is a fifty percent chance."
