Anhui Province issues measures to ensure food security.

Recently, the "Measures for the Implementation of the Food Security Law of the People's Republic of China in Anhui Province" has been announced and will be implemented starting from October 1st this year. The Measures specify the specific responsibilities of various levels of government and relevant departments in aspects such as balancing farmland occupation and compensation, protecting farmland quality, and controlling farmland use, in order to curb the destruction of farmland and unauthorized changes in farmland use. Efforts will be made to strengthen the construction and renovation of agricultural infrastructure, promote river management and irrigation district renovation, advance the construction of agricultural water conservancy facilities and the rectification of canals. In terms of supporting food production and operation, the Measures stipulate support for the development of food crop varieties, strengthening scientific and technological support for food production, promoting major agricultural scientific and technological research and the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, implementing food subsidies and insurance policies, mobilizing the enthusiasm of food producers and major food-producing counties, and encouraging moderate-scale operation. The Measures also state that in cases where wheat and rice do not meet quality standards or food safety indicators due to natural disasters or other force majeure, the provincial government may organize protective procurement. In terms of strengthening food reserve security management and promoting high-quality development of the food industry, the Measures specify the regulations for the separation of commercial operations from the food reserves of provinces at the enterprise level.
