The European Space Agency said on the 26th that on the night of the 25th local time, the agency successfully launched 5 satellites into the planned orbit using the "Vega-C" rocket, including 4 CO3D satellites used for Earth observation and 3D mapping and 1 MicroCarb satellite measuring global carbon dioxide distribution. ESA said that the "Vega-C" rocket was launched from the Guiana Space Centre in French Guiana and entered the planned orbit smoothly, lasting nearly two hours. It is reported that the 4 CO3D satellites were manufactured by the European aerospace and defense company Airbus and are carrying out missions for the French National Centre for Space Studies, aiming to provide three-dimensional imaging and mapping of the Earth from low Earth orbit to serve the diverse needs of public and private sector. These satellites are equipped with optical instruments that can capture images in the red, green, blue visible light bands and the near-infrared band with a spatial resolution of approximately 50 centimeters. The satellites can observe the same target area from different angles to generate 3D maps. Image acquisition by combining pairs of satellites can achieve synchronous measurement of moving targets, while the use of two pairs of satellites can improve coverage efficiency for large-scale mapping.
