The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Southern Africa Sub-Regional Office was inaugurated in the capital of Botswana, Gaborone, on the 25th. The office aims to promote sustainable urban development and inclusive urbanization in the Southern Africa sub-region through strengthening cooperation, providing tailored technical support, and sharing urban planning knowledge. President Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana stated during the inauguration ceremony that urbanization is a major challenge faced by Botswana. The global expertise, technical resources, and policy experience of UN-Habitat can assist Botswana in implementing customized solutions to improve housing, eradicate slums, develop climate-responsive infrastructure, formulate inclusive city plans for young people, and achieve gender equality.
