The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) of the United States announced on Friday that it has concluded a 14-month investigation into a series of minor collisions and incidents involving Alphabet's Waymo self-driving cars and has taken no further action. The U.S. automotive safety regulatory agency launched the investigation in May 2024 following 22 reports alleging that Waymo's self-driving taxis exhibited potential violations of traffic safety laws or other "unexpected behaviors," including 17 collisions. The NHTSA mentioned Waymo's two recall requests and its analysis of existing data in concluding the investigation.
