Cyprus heat wave continues, wildfires cause 2 deaths.

The Cyprus government announced on the 24th local time that the wildfire that broke out on the 23rd has destroyed over 100 square kilometers of land, making it one of the worst wildfires in history. The fire has already caused 2 deaths and multiple injuries. According to local media reports in Cyprus, wildfires broke out in the Limassol and Paphos regions on the afternoon of the 23rd. Due to strong winds, the fire spread rapidly and multiple fire lines were formed in Limassol. Preliminary assessments show that the area affected by the fire is around 124 square kilometers. The wildfires have destroyed numerous homes, power facilities, and vineyards in Limassol. According to initial investigations by the Cyprus police, the fire may have been caused by arson. Cyprus is currently facing prolonged drought and severe heatwaves. Meteorological department monitoring data shows that the local temperature reached 44 degrees Celsius on the 24th, setting a new record for the highest temperature in the country this year.
