Shanxi Provincial Department of Water Resources has initiated a level III emergency response for flood prevention in Datong and three other cities.

According to the meteorological department's forecast, in the next three days, most parts of northern Shanxi Province will experience heavy to torrential rain, with some areas experiencing severe rainstorms. Moreover, with the flooding in upstream Inner Mongolia, small and medium-sized rivers in northern Shanxi Province may experience flood levels above the warning level. In accordance with the arrangements of the provincial party committee and government, and following the "Emergency Response Regulations for Flood and Drought Disaster Prevention of Shanxi Province Water Resources Department," after consultation and assessment, the Shanxi Provincial Water Resources Department has decided to raise the flood defense level from Level IV to Level III for the cities of Datong, Shuozhou, and Xinzhou starting from 17:00 on July 24, 2025.
