The Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) 100 stock index in London closed at 9061.49 points on the 23rd, up 37.68 points from the previous trading day, an increase of 0.42%. The three major European stock indices all rose that day. Among individual stocks, service sector stocks led the gains in the London stock market. The top five stocks in terms of increase were: information services company Informann rose by 4.94%, John David Sports Fashion Company rose by 4.64%, AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals rose by 3.11%, international equipment leasing company Ashtead Group rose by 2.58%, and chemical company Croda International rose by 2.20%. On the other hand, energy sector stocks were among the top losers in the London stock market that day. The top five stocks in terms of decline were: British natural gas supplier Centrica Group fell by 3.26%, energy supplier SSE fell by 2.94%, United Utilities Group fell by 2.44%, water company Severn Trent fell by 2.37%, and British National Grid Company fell by 2.03%.
