Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau responds to steel bars in the beams of luxury houses being cut.
On July 21, in Changsha, Hunan Province. The developer responded that the reinforced steel bars of the beams in the fine-decorated houses were cut, and a special team has been set up on-site to supervise, and will actively cooperate with government departments for rectification. In late June of this year, a homeowner in Block B of the Runfu community in Changsha made minor renovations to their fine-decorated house. After removing the living room ceiling, they found that several main reinforcing bars at the lower end of the load-bearing beam in the living room were deliberately cut. Subsequently, homeowners in buildings 9 and 10 also pried open their ceilings and discovered varying degrees of damage to the load-bearing beams. These three buildings have a total of 314 homeowners, all in large 188 square meter units. On July 15, the Changsha Municipal Housing and Construction Bureau replied to the homeowners that the safety hazard of the load-bearing beams was caused by improper installation of the kitchen door track during the fine decoration construction of the project; the test results showed that the cut concrete beams were secondary beams of the floor, and local damage does not affect the overall structural safety. However, experts suggest that homeowners should wait for repairs and reinforcements before resuming normal use of their homes.
