The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration in the United States announced on Monday that it has received a total of 1878 accident reports involving Nissan vehicles, with 12 resulting in collisions or fires. They have opened an investigation into engine malfunction issues affecting Nissan models such as the Rogue, Altima, as well as luxury models like the Infiniti QX50 and QX55. Nissan's recall plan released in June requires dealers to inspect the oil pan for metal debris. Vehicles with no debris will have the engine oil replaced and minor repairs done according to the engine type; those with debris may require major repairs or engine replacement. The Yokohama-based automaker has also agreed to extend the warranty period for affected vehicles to 10 years or 120,000 miles after inspection.
