Goldman Sachs senior strategist Sharon Bell said that European small caps have performed well this year and are expected to continue to maintain strong momentum. The weakness of the US dollar and expectations of economic improvement in the region have provided additional drive for small caps. The relative cheapness of small caps compared to large caps is also part of what makes them attractive. In addition to Goldman Sachs, a survey of European fund managers by Bank of America also showed that 44% of respondents expect small caps to outperform large caps in the next 12 months. A month ago, only 7% of fund managers thought this way. Since the beginning of the year, the MSCI Europe Small Cap Index has risen by about 13%, while Germany's SDAX Index, covering 70 small companies, has risen by nearly 32%. In comparison, the pan-European Stoxx 600 Index has risen by 7.9% and the S&P 500 Index has risen by about 7%.
