On July 15th, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Carrie Lam, met with the media before attending the Executive Council meeting. She stated that the Transport and Housing Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR government had submitted legislative proposals to the Legislative Council's Transport Panel on regulating the networked car rental services. Lam mentioned that since the first ride-hailing platform entered the Hong Kong market in 2014, a regulatory system has not been established, and the quality of taxi services has failed to meet the expectations of the public. This has led to issues concerning the safety and security of the vehicles and passengers, insurance, driver quality, and the coexistence of ride-hailing with taxis. Although these issues are complex, they should not be further delayed, and the Hong Kong SAR government must come up with a solution.
