Rio Tinto appoints iron ore chief executive Simon Trott as CEO
On Tuesday, Rio Tinto appointed current head of iron ore division Simon Trott as the new CEO, replacing Jacob Stausholm who unexpectedly announced his resignation in May. Trott has been working at Rio Tinto for 20 years and launched the largest new iron ore mine in Western Australia in over a decade, as well as developing a massive alternative plan for the state. He also served as the company's Chief Commercial Officer from 2018 to 2021. Trott has faced resistance from investors as the quality of iron ore exports from Rio Tinto has declined during his tenure, and the mining company has struggled to reach its production forecasts.
