Performance evaluation of Byte Reform: M+ standard will be raised, and those rated I and below may face adjustments or dismissal.
Today there is news that ByteDance has sent out an internal email, adjusting the performance standards. According to reports, one aspect is to emphasize that "Met Expectations" (M) means being able to consistently perform role responsibilities, showing good and stable work performance. In terms of expected results, the proportion of "M" will increase and will make up the majority. At the same time, the upper limit of the annual incentive range for the "M" level will be increased.
Secondly, "Exceeded Expectations" (M+) represents work performance that sometimes exceeds expectations, and the standards for "M+" will be raised. The proportion of expected "M+" will decrease, but the corresponding incentives will increase, and the lower limit of the annual incentive range for the "M+" level will be raised.
Thirdly, there will be a clearer distinction between "Below Expectations" (M-) and "Needs Improvement" (I) and below. "M-" represents slightly below expectations, requiring self-adjustment or improvement with the help of a leader, and does not necessarily mean leaving the company. Compared to "M-", "I" represents falling below role expectations, not being able to fulfill role responsibilities, requiring adjustment or resignation. There will be a clearer identification of "I" and below, without confusing them with "M-".
Fourthly, it encourages more "Exceeded Expectations" (E) and above, allowing colleagues who make outstanding contributions to receive full recognition and incentives. Sina Technology has sought confirmation from the official ByteDance, but as of the time of writing, there has been no response from the official side.
