South Korea: High temperatures lead to a sharp increase in agricultural product prices, with one watermelon selling for over 150 yuan.
Recently, South Korea has been experiencing a heat wave, leading to a significant increase in the prices of various agricultural products such as watermelon, Chinese cabbage, and radish. Data released by the Korea Agro-Fisheries and Food Trade Corporation on the 13th showed that as of the 11th of this month, the average retail price of a watermelon in the Korean market reached 29,115 Korean won, an increase of 22.5% from the previous week, 36.5% from the same period last year, and 38.5% higher than the average price over the past 5 years. Retail industry experts predict that due to the heatwave increasing demand for watermelons and the slow growth caused by insufficient sunlight in June, watermelon prices may further rise. In addition to watermelons, the prices of other agricultural products in South Korea have recently shown an upward trend. Statistics show that the average retail price of a head of Chinese cabbage in South Korea is 4,309 Korean won, an increase of 27.4% from a week ago.
