On July 12, 2025, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended a series of annual foreign ministers' meetings on East Asian cooperation in Kuala Lumpur and accepted an interview with Chinese media. Wang Yi said: China is a close and friendly neighbor and a community of shared future with Cambodia and Thailand. We always prioritize the development of China-Cambodia and China-Thailand relations in our neighborhood diplomacy. This time, consensus was reached with Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Braisokun and Thai Foreign Minister Maly on implementing high-level agreements and deepening mutually beneficial cooperation. Cambodia and Thailand separately briefed the Chinese side on the current border situation. Overall, both sides have the willingness to control the situation, calm things down, and do not want the contradictions to become more complex and expanded. Cambodia and Thailand are inseparable neighbors, and their common interests far outweigh their partial differences.
