Hkan Samuelsson, CEO and president of Volvo Cars, discussed the future of the European automotive industry in a program. While some European car manufacturers are calling for the EU to impose tariffs on foreign competitors, Hkan takes a more liberal and open approach. He said, "It is meaningless to protect through tariffs or other means. The only way to protect our industry is to actively improve and enhance our competitiveness. I believe that the future EU market will face fierce competition from new entrants in China's new energy vehicles. The sooner we adapt to this situation and start developing cars, the better." Hkan also stressed that when operating in China, Volvo must truly focus on the needs of the Chinese market rather than simply copying European products. He said, "Chinese consumers are very interested in technology, so they like cars with rich software functions. This means that European-developed functions cannot simply be directly transferred to cars; instead, cooperation with Chinese companies to develop related technologies is necessary to truly take the lead."
