The average price index of the Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) 100 in London, UK, closed at 8941.12 points on the 11th, a decrease of 34.54 points or 0.38% from the previous trading day. The three major stock indexes in Europe all fell that day. Among the individual stocks in the London stock market, the top five gainers in the resource sector were: Fresnillo, a precious metal producer, rose by 3.48%; BP, the British Petroleum Company, rose by 3.42%; Rio Tinto, a mining company, rose by 2.70%; British American Tobacco Group rose by 2.19%; and Aviva Insurance Group rose by 1.72%. On the same day, the top five decliners in the consumer sector among the constituent stocks of the London stock market were: JD Sports Fashion Company fell by 3.27%; GlaxoSmithKline fell by 3.16%; advertising and media giant WPP fell by 2.91%; medical equipment supplier Smith & Nephew fell by 2.86%; and chemical company Croda International fell by 2.68%.
