On July 11, at 12:30 p.m., the second trial of the Xiangtan University student dormitory poisoning case was announced to be scheduled for judgment. Prior reports from Jm News stated that on April 7, 2024, while studying as a graduate student at Xiangtan University, Zhang ingested a can of "bitter cereal" belonging to his roommate, and died 6 days later after unsuccessful resuscitation. The public security authorities investigation revealed that Zhang and his roommate Zhou were suspected of committing a major crime, and Zhou was arrested. According to the forensic examination conducted by the public security authorities, Zhang died from multiple organ failure caused by poisoning from Aconitine. On April 7, 2025, the first trial of the case sentenced Zhou to death for intentional homicide and deprived of political rights for life.
