Report: Foot traffic in the UK retail industry continues to decline due to extreme weather conditions obstructing consumers.
A report released on Friday showed that extreme weather conditions have hindered consumers from going out to shop, leading to a continuous decline in foot traffic in the UK retail industry. The latest report compiled by the British Retail Consortium and Sensormatic Solutions IQ showed that footfall in stores, including high streets, retail parks, and shopping centers, decreased by 1.8% compared to the same period last year in the five weeks leading up to July 5. In May, total footfall in the UK dropped by 1.7%. Chief Executive of the British Retail Consortium, Helen Dickinson, said, "High streets have been particularly impacted, with severe thunderstorms following the heatwave, preventing people from going shopping in stores." She also mentioned that consumers are still cautious about spending, making it increasingly difficult for retailers to attract a large number of footfall into their stores.
