According to the Securities Times APP, an advisor to the highest court of the European Union stated on Thursday that as long as it does not harm the freedom of contracts, EU member states have the right to implement their own measures to strengthen the position of publishers when dealing with large online platforms. The European Court of Justice (CJEU) is handling a lawsuit, with Meta (META.US) as the plaintiff and the Italian communications regulatory agency AGCOM as the defendant. The dispute focuses on whether Meta is required to pay fees to Italian news publishers for using their news summary content.
